Weekly Focus: Students will research a hero of their choice they will use in the Definition Essay. Students will choose and analyze two pieces of evidence for the essay. Assignments: Definition Essay: Graphic Organizers (can be accessed through Google Classroom anytime!) Homework is any unfinished classwork for the day. By the end of the week the introduction, body paragraphs 1&2 should be complete. Assessments: Formative Assessment on Body Paragraph 2.

Past Assignments

Focus: Students will continue drafting their Hero's Journey Narratives, focusing on The Magic Flight and The Return. Students will submit their final drafts by Monday, September 11th via Google Docs/Classroom. Assignment: Narrative drafting, typing of final draft in MLA format for submission Assessment: Formative assessment on completion of Road of Trials and Ultimate Boon Further information: Students may work on their essays with teacher guidance and advice at lunch Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as after school on Tuesday/Wednesday from 3-3:30 in room O-4 (with Ms. Gecik).

Focus: Students will continue drafting their Hero's Journey narratives using their outlines, as well as participate in the peer editing process. We have a tentative due date of September 8th for the final draft. Assignment: Narrative drafting, peer editing, students need to make sure they have their stories completed through The Ultimate Boon by Tuesday of next week (if they need to catch up over the weekend) Assessment: Formative assessment on completion of parts of the narrative

Analyzing The Road of Trials--step 4 in the Hero's Journey archetype. Students will practice this skill using various texts, including "The Cyclops' Cave" from The Odyssey. They will continue to update their narrative writing outlines in preparation for their narrative essay. Formative assessment this week will be analyzing the road of trials in The Odyssey and what these challenges can reveal about the hero. We will also learn about sentence variety, including simple, compound, and complex.
