About Me
Hello!
Welcome to Mr. Thurston's room! I'm excited to explore learning and relationships with you this year!
This is my fourth year teaching at NP3. I was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia. I completed my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education- Social Studies at Northern Michigan University. Upon graduating, I accepted a teaching position in rural Alaska. I have lived and taught in two different village communities and valued each immensely. It was a great opportunity to develop close relationships with my students and the community (both villages are only accessible by plane!) Students and community members also taught me their Alaska Native Yup'ik and Cup'ig culture. This created rich learning opportunities for myself and created the joyful challenge of engaging students in education through their cultural lens. After six wonderful years there, I have now relocated to the Sacramento area. In my free time I love to get outside with my wife and our dog by hiking, camping and exploring new places.
I hope to instill this passion of learning and relationship building within the framework of NP3's education model.
