As you may be aware, there is a national food shortage. This is impacting school lunch programs across the nation including Natomas Unified School District. In response to this, we are making changes in the Nutrition Services Department to reduce the impact on our students. In the past couple of weeks, we have taken the following actions:

  • We have diversified our food suppliers by adding new vendors which include large distributors and local farmers, growers, and producers.
  • We have placed orders earlier with our distributors.
  • We are making more items from scratch in our central kitchen.

This shortage may affect our operations with last minute menu changes or a limited supply of a student’s first choice of food.  While there may be substitutions, we will ensure that there is always food available for free to any student who would like to participate in any of our food programs.
