As the Natomas community continues to grow and thrive, Natomas Unified School District is excited to announce that it’s one step closer to securing land at the Sacramento Kings former arena location in Natomas. The District reached an agreement with SBH Natomas LLC to purchase 12 acres of land to be home to a brand new school, potentially with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). With the new housing developments growing in that area, the former Kings Arena location will help to serve families of school-age children residing in that area.
“We are pleased to partner with the Natomas Unified School District to further redevelop the arena site into a hub of innovation for our region,” said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. “The school district will join California Northstate University in creating an education pipeline for our region.”
The land, which the District was able to purchase less than the appraised cost, also includes four acres that the district would partner with the City of Sacramento to provide field and playground space for a park for students during the school day and for the community to enjoy after school hours. “The open space agreement is similar to some of the other agreements that we have done in the past with the City. It’s an opportunity for both our students and the Natomas community to benefit,” said Chris Evans, Superintendent.
The next step in the process is both Boards approving the purchase. The item will come before the NUSD Board during the next Board meeting scheduled for January 19, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
While there are many steps that need to take place before construction is considered, we wanted to make our community aware of this exciting progress. Even in the pandemic, NUSD is always planning for a stronger community with strong schools.
