Job Posting & Announcement

The Board of Trustees selected the search firm McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. to assist Natomas Unified in our search for the next superintendent.

The job posting was advertised on the McPherson & Jacobson webpage, EdJoin, EdCal Online, EdCal print, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and CALSA.  The job posting outlined the qualifications and requirements for the position, as well as the Board-approved salary range.  (Note: The job posting closed on March 30, 2023 at 9:30 p.m. PST.)

Interviews were held Friday, April 28 – Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Stakeholder Engagement 

The consultants from the search firm facilitated numerous targeted stakeholder engagement sessions, two in person and two virtual community input sessions, and made a survey available to the entire Natomas community in multiple languages.  More detailed information about stakeholder engagement can be found in the timeline below on this dedicated webpage.

During the March 8, 2023 Special Board Meeting the consultants from the search firm shared that they received input from approximately 173 individuals, as well as 243 responses to the online surveys.  The consultants also presented an Executive Summary of the Stakeholder Input Report.

1. How does the search process work?

On November 16, 2022 the Board of Trustees approved a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Superintendent Search Services.  Responsive search firms presented to the Board of Trustees on December 14, 2022 and the Board selected the search firm McPherson & Jacobson, LLC. to assist Natomas Unified in our search for a new Superintendent.  The Board is currently working with McPherson & Jacobson, LLC. to seek, receive and consider input from the community, review applications, interview candidates and select the new superintendent.

2. When will the new Superintendent be hired?

During a Special Board Meeting on January 25, 2023 the Board of Trustees gave direction on a timeline for the Superintendent search.  The timeline presented by the search firm can be viewed here. Key dates are outlined below.

  • March 30, 2023 – Closing Date for Applications (9:30 p.m. PST)

  • April 19, 2023 (Special Board Meeting) – Board of Trustees will select candidates to interview
  • April 28 & April 29, 2023 – The Board of Trustees will interview candidates
  • May 10, 2023 (Regular Board Meeting) – The Board of Trustees will select the district’s next superintendent

3. How and when do parents and other stakeholders weigh-in?

The search firm solicited input on the characteristics, experience, and skills desired in the next superintendent.  The search firm engaged various stakeholders in the month of February 2023.  In addition to targeted stakeholder engagement as directed by the Board, the search firm facilitated multiple community input sessions.  Two in-person community input sessions were held on Thursday, February 16 at Bannon Creek School at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Two virtual community input sessions were held on Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m. (simultaneous sessions were offered in English and Spanish).

The search firm also made a survey available to families, staff, and the Natomas community for those who would like to give input but are unable to attend any of the Community Input Sessions.  The survey was available in English, Spanish, and Punjabi, and was open for two weeks from February 14 – February 28, 2023.

 

4. When will the District share the collected input with the public?

An Executive Summary on the information gathered during stakeholder engagement was presented to the Board of Trustees during the March 8, 2023 Special Board Meeting.  The entire Stakeholder Input Report can be viewed here.

5. Who will make the final selection?

By law, the Board of Trustees is solely responsible for hiring the new superintendent. The Board will seek, receive, and consider input from the community, review applications, interview candidates, and select the new superintendent.  Interviews are scheduled for Friday, April 28 – Saturday, April 29, 2023.

6. How can the public follow this process?

Updates regarding the superintendent search process will be posted on this dedicated webpage. The Board will also provide updates at their regularly scheduled board meetings and/or Special Board meetings as this process moves forward.

7. Can we find out who is applying?

All application materials, including the names of applicants and any other personally identifiable information, are confidential under law.
