Great news to share!!! Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) will pay the application fees for NUSD high school seniors who meet the eligibility requirements for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses for fall 2023. This is in support of our goal to prepare students to be college and career ready and another way we’re able to increase college access and awareness for our students.

The application fee to apply to a UC or CSU is $70 per campus. To remove potential financial barriers for students to apply, NUSD staff has connected with university staff  to create a process to pay for this year’s 12th grade students’ application fees for their first CSU and UC applications. Families could potentially save $140 in application fees if their student applies to one UC and one CSU.

In addition, some of our seniors are eligible for application fee waivers directly with UC and CSU because of their family income. We encourage those seniors to take advantage of that because it allows them to apply to up to four UC campuses and four CSU campuses at no cost. If any of those seniors who utilized the UC/CSU waiver wanted to apply to a 5th UC and/or CSU campus, Natomas Unified would cover the cost of the 5th application.

We are extremely excited about this news. Our high school counseling teams will be on hand to support seniors through this process, as well as filling out the Free Application for Student Aid, known as FAFSA. Be looking for information from your student’s school about upcoming events and resources available to families. Recognizing that some students may have already applied and paid the fees, we are preparing for a reimbursement process. Information on that process will be available soon and shared with our high school counselors.

NUSD remains committed to providing students with multiple pathways to continue their educational journey upon graduating from high school. One of the ways we are able to do that is by offering students A-G courses, a requirement for California State University/University of California admission. As we shared last week in a communication about our graduation rates, our current A-G rate is 61.45%, which is higher than the state and county averages. We’re proud of that and look forward to more students having the option to attend college and follow their dreams.
