Now it’s your turn, 8th-graders.

That was the message from Leroy Greene Academy’s graduating seniors May 22 at the school’s “8th Grade Commitment to Graduate” ceremony. Festivities began with a videotape in which 12th-graders provided advice, one by one, about what it takes to do well in high school.

LGA’s 8th-graders have signed a giant “Commitment to Graduate” banner that was displayed at the May 22 promotion ceremony and will be visible on campus.

Principal Leslie Sargent told the promoting students that she “can’t wait to hand you a diploma in four years” as LGA’s high school “Class of ’21.”

“I believe in you,” Sargent said.

Dozens of students were recognized at the May 22 ceremony for having a grade point average this year of 3.0 or higher. The class of 113 8th-graders walked across the stage to congratulations from Supt. Chris Evans, Deputy Supt. William Young, Steve Meyer of LGA’s Executive Council and Principal Sargent, among others. Parents packed the multipurpose room to honor the 8th-graders, who can remain at LGA to attend high school.
