Natomas Middle School Principal Shea Borges told her promoting class of 8th-graders today that they have a special place in her heart because both she and they arrived at the campus three years ago.

“Over the last three years, I have watched you transition from a young elementary student to a strong, hard-working, independent high school student, ready to take on the challenges and opportunity that high school will bring,” she told the departing class at a ceremony on Inderkum High’s football field to honor their 6th, 7th and 8th grade accomplishments.

“Many of you have had challenges, faced difficulty, and maybe wanted to give up a time or two. But look at you now, you are sitting here, because you keep pushing forward, you worked hard, and you keep your goal in mind.”

Borges applauded the 8th-graders’ determination to make each day better than the last, to grow, and to learn from their mistakes.

“As you enter high school, you will come up against difficult challenges and you may feel like even the smallest task is like having to climb a mountain. If you look at the mountain as a whole, it may seem impossible, but as you take one step, you are that much closer to reaching the top. Every small step that you take is the beginning of you moving closer to your dreams,” Borges said.

Borges asked the 8th-graders to plan ahead for a successful future, visualize themselves now and years into the future. “How do you see yourself?” she asked. Get started on building a successful adult life. College and career success starts now.

“Remember, each person here believes in you, now continue to believe in yourself and you can achieve all that you dream,” she said.

“Don’t worry about falling, because as long as you fall forward, you are still traveling in the right direction,” she added. “So put your best foot forward and start stepping. The only person who can stop you from achieving your goals is you.”
