LESLIE GLOVER

High School — year graduated: Natomas High, Class of 2000

Other NUSD Schools Attended: Jefferson School, Natomas Junior High

College attended: California State University, Sacramento (Government and Journalism)

Career since college: State government.

“I am currently a Program Manager for a California State Department (Employment Development Department). I manage a unit of staff that provide decisions to California employers on whether they are eligible for federal tax savings.”

Q. How would you complete this sentence? NUSD was good for me because…

A: “I learned the benefit of what can happen when you apply yourself. Great opportunities can happen when you make that extra effort.”

Q: How did an NUSD education help prepare you for college or career?

A: “I took most of the advanced and AP courses at Natomas HIgh School, which prepared me for college work and classroom atmosphere.”

Q: What advice would you give to current students?

“I truly believe that everyone’s future starts today — at this very instant, and that what you do today affects your tomorrow. Recently I enjoyed participating in Career Day at H. Allen Hight Elementary. I told the children that their future starts right now and explained the importance of college and obtaining a college degree — especially now. I also asked them what their career dreams and ambitions were — what they wanted to be when they ‘grow up’? I explained that they could start developing good study and work habits at this age and these habits can and will continue with you through middle school, high school, and through college. Envision a plan to make your career dreams come true. Focus and follow through with your plan and if you hit a bump in the road, it’s okay. Keep moving forward.”

Q: Favorite memory from NUSD days?

A: “There are so many! Besides other great memories from AFJROTC and cheerleading, my favorite memory would be Senior Year Homecoming and being part of the Royal Court.”

Q: Future goals?

A: A current goal is to become a more integral part of our (Natomas) community — possibly becoming part of City Council.”

NUSD’S Board-approved Vision: “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”
