It’s National Adult Education Week, and the Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) is showing its appreciation for Adult Education teachers and students. Adult Education is essential in helping adult learners forge a better foundation on their way to their career path. Here at NUSD, we offer multiple programs for adult learners including: General Education Diploma (GED) in Spanish and English, Food Handler Certificate classes, High School Recovery courses, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. All classes are held at Discovery High School.  “It’s extremely important because it gives adult students another opportunity to finish what maybe they didn’t get to while they were in school,” David Rodriguez, an NUSD Assistant Superintendent, said.

In one ESL class, students shared how the course has helped them in their jobs and their personal lives. “It’s very important for me because my first language is Portuguese, I am learning English here. I like it very much,” a student said. Learning English is a major step in advancing a student’s career trajectory, leading the way to obtaining one’s GED, to college, and eventually to a career.

Adult students within Sacramento and surrounding counties are invited to enroll into the Natomas Unified Adult Education program. Students must be 18 years or older and provide their transcripts when registering. Assistance will be provided to students who need help obtaining their transcripts. Childcare is also offered while students are in class.
