About Me

Meet Mrs. Shannon! Mrs. Shannon-Walker was born and raised in the heart of San Francisco, in a tiny neighborhood between the Haight-Ashbury and the Castro called Cole Valley. She attended college at UC Santa Cruz, majoring in American studies and minoring in education. She then went on to work at an after school program in San Francisco before making the big move with her now-husband to Sacramento. She received her multiple subjects teaching credential from Sac State and has another credential in music. Growing up, Mrs. Shannon-Walker noticed that there were a lot of problems in the world and that people were treated inequitably. She always wanted to change it to make it better, and felt that education was the best way to do it which is why she became a teacher.

What brought Mrs. Shannon to PVS? After teaching at an IB World School for three years, the opportunity came up to help start a new school in the district (PVS) with the same focus. Mrs. Shannon loves the way teachers get to design the experiences in the classroom and how concepts and content can all be woven together. She finds that, because of the IB programme, scholars are able to develop higher-level thinking skills and are more bought into what they are learning. Not only has she loved the IB Programme since her first year of teaching, but she is so privileged to continue developing the programme in Natomas.

What is her proudest moment? Mrs. Shannon-Walker is so proud each time a scholar finds a solution to a global problem through making connections between what we are learning in class and the world. When that happens, she is reminded of the reason why she became a teacher and how important every person is in making the world a better place.

Did you know? Mrs. Shannon-Walker is an expert at all things Beatles!
