Principal Tonja Jarrell

PVS Families,

I am excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at Paso Verde School. This is sure to be a year unlike any we have experienced but the PVS Community is strong; because we are distant does
not mean we are alone. We can be proud of the care and resilience our community has already shown and continues to show for each other.

As we enter our 4th school year in the context of COVID, please know your family’s health and safety continue to be NUSD and PVS’ top priority, which is why we are opening in distance learning. PVS will still offer many exciting opportunities for social, emotional, and academic growth for your scholar; school connectedness is the gateway to academic achievement for our scholars. Team Puma is working to plan a safe and successful re-opening of our campus and looks forward to moving into our new, state of the art, permanent campus.  I am proud that our IB Primary Years Programme is moving forward for authorization and our Middle Years Programme is moving forward in candidacy.  As Proud Pumas we are motivated by our mission to inspire globally minded leaders through academic excellence.

PVS’ commitment to developing globally minded scholars occurs through our passionate faculty providing high quality instruction and challenging learning experiences in a welcoming and nurturing environment. We are honored to partner with our families and community to provide an academic experience to our scholars that is relevant, rigorous, and based on trusting relationships. Each of our families has opportunities to be an integral part of the PVS community by communicating with your scholar’s teacher, virtually volunteering and supporting school events and fundraisers, joining our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and working with the School Site Council (SSC), and the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).

We include important information on our PVS website and are available at the PVS Virtual Office 916-567-5810 and [email protected] Our community offers a great deal of information through social media on the PVS Parents’ Facebook and Instagram so please keep updated and reach out with ideas, input, and questions. Please join the PVS Parents Facebook page at and Instagram at pasoverdeschool_nusd.

I am so proud to be part of the PVS Community, it is truly second to none and look forward to a successful school year together.  Together, we will overcome the challenges it may bring. If you have any questions about our school, programs, or expectations, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

With Puma Pride,
Tonja Jarrell
