A little rain didn’t keep nearly 170 people from having fun and eating hardy at today’s Bannon Creek School kickoff festivities for NUSD’s Summer Feeding Program.

A free BBQ lunch was served, featuring chicken apple sausage, garden salad, strawberries and milk. A free farmers market  also was available, along with free pencils and stickers from NUSD, a taste test for cucumber melon salad, and Latin music and a spin-and-win prize wheel provided by a local radio station, Latino 97.9.

Some of the fun is captured in photos below. A similiar event is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Thursday (6/15) at Witter Ranch Elementary School, 3790 Poppy Hill Way.

NUSD’s Summer Feeding Program is designed to ensure that no child goes hungry while classes are out and school cafeterias are closed in June and July. Weekday breakfasts and/or lunches will be served at nine schools through July 28, except for Independence Day, July 4.
