Dear Two Rivers Families,
I am excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at Two Rivers Elementary School! We know this will be a year unlike any other. Our Otter community is strong; we will be learning along the way, and we know we are strongest together. I have been so proud of the flexibility and resilience our community has shown during this time. Our team has been working hard to plan for a safe and successful re-opening of our campus. I am proud to share with you that we will be implementing AVID schoolwide this year! AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Through AVID Elementary, students will develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. Our students will learn more about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy. More information will be coming during the first days of school about the strategies and skills our students will be learning!
The students, staff, and families of Two Rivers Elementary are members of a community in which all strive to support student growth in all domains: academic, social-emotional, and physical development. This community supports and cares for each other as we prepare students for college and career and aspire to the highest levels of achievement.
Two Rivers welcomes all of our families to participate in our students’ education! There are several ways to become involved in the Two Rivers community. Joining the PTA is an opportunity to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport and develop relationships. School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents, and classified employees that work with me to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. We also have an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) for parents and other community members who want to advocate for English Learners. Throughout the year, we will be providing you with information on our school website, in teacher newsletters, calendars, email newsletters, and with Infinite Campus phone calls, texts, and emails. You may also access the Infinite Campus Parent Portal from our website.
I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming year and welcoming our families back to campus. The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 27th. School begins each day at 7:45am for all students. Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten dismissal time is 1:38pm, while 1st-5th grades will dismiss at 1:55pm. Traffic is always more congested during the first weeks of school. We are striving to lessen the impact of traffic in and around our school during drop off and pick up. Thank you in advance for cooperating with our staff in keeping all of our students and parents safe during these high traffic periods.
Our office will reopen August 3rd at 1pm, and class lists will be posted Friday, August 7th, at 4pm. This is a great time to become familiar with teacher expectations and your student’s classroom.
I am so proud to be your principal and look forward to a successful school year together. Together, we will overcome the challenges it may bring. If you have any questions about our school, programs, or expectations, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
