Want top dollar to serve as a substitute teacher in a growing Sacramento-area school district? Check out Natomas Unified!

Offering the highest daily rate in the Sacramento area, Natomas Unified has immediate openings and consistent work available to exemplary part-time teachers or qualified college graduates who can provide continuity in classrooms and make a difference in young students’ lives.

NUSD’s daily rate for substitute teachers rose to $150 Monday, and the district will pay even more, $185, to long-term substitutes — who serve 11 or more consecutive days in the same assignment – and to retired NUSD teachers who return to the classroom part-time.

To apply or for more information, click here or call (916) 561-5299. Please spread the word to any high-quality subs or college graduates you know.

Natomas Unified is a diverse growing district, a few miles north of the Capitol, where state data shows its graduation rate rising, its dropout rate falling, and its percentage of students eligible for college is the highest in Sacramento County.

To be eligible as a substitute teacher, you must have a valid teaching credential or be a college graduate who passes a fingerprint background check and a basic proficiency test – known as CBEST – covering reading, mathematics and writing.

Substitute teaching provides the opportunity to help prepare students for college and career readiness while maintaining a flexible schedule with short-term commitments. It also provides practical classroom experience and can be a stepping stone to permanent employment, which has been the case for several substitute-teachers-turned-permanent employees in NUSD.

For college graduates considering teaching as a career, NUSD recently launched a separate program to invest in diverse future classroom teachers, with an emphasis on those who will specialize in Math, Science, or other hard-to-fill subject areas. Diversity targeted by the program includes candidates who are bilingual, who live in zip codes similar to Natomas, or who have a track record of supporting underserved students. NUSD will help pay the one-year cost to earn a credential and provide other supports to a limited number of candidates. Details are available here.
