ACCELERATED READER: WHAT IS IT?

  • Students select books appropriate for individual reading level and interests
  • Read the books
  • Take an Accelerated Reader Practice Quiz
  • Show quiz results to their teacher
ACCELERATED READER RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT:

  • Top performers read 144 times more than readers who perform at the lowest reading levels!
  • 60 minutes of reading per day = greatest growth
  • 45 minutes of reading per day = substantial growth
  • 30 minutes of reading per day = significant growth
  • We become skilled at the activities we spend time on; however, practice must be in appropriate materials (readability level).
EACH STUDENT HAS BEEN TESTED TO FIND A ZONE OF PROXIMAL DEVELOPMENT (ZPD).
    • ZPD is the book level at which your child can read and comprehend 95-98% of the words on a page.  It is the “just right” or “recreational” reading level.
