Youth Workforce Summer Program

In collaboration with the Natomas Chamber of Commerce, Natomas Unified School District is offering a youth workforce summer program that will provide students with basic life and work skills for summer employment and beyond.

  • Helps with the worker shortage in the community by growing our workforce community with our own youth

Thank you for your interest in the Youth Workforce Summer Program. We invite eligible students to submit an application no later than 4 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023.

  • NUSD students ages 15-18 who are not attending Summer School
  • Students available to attend the Boot camp to be held in-person June 12 – 16, 2023
  • Students committed to working the full 6-weeks
  • Students eligible for a work permit

What are the requirements for this program?

  • NUSD students ages 15 -18
  • Attend a one-week workshop series to prepare you for the workforce.

What are the dates of the program:

  • June 12 – June 16, 2023 – Workshop series
    • 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m (Lunch provided)
  • June 16, 2023  – Job/Interview fair
    • Job fair 12:45 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Lunch provided)
    • Interviews  2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • June 19- July 28, 2023 – Employment

What will my work schedule look like?
A schedule will be coordinated with the employer.

Do I have to commit to the entire program?
Yes.

Do I need to provide my own transportation to and from my assigned employment?
Yes.

Can I attend Summer School and this program?
No. This program is during the same window as Summer School. If you are required to attend summer school, you may not participate in this program.

What are the benefits of this program?
An opportunity for you to gain real-world experience and help with the worker shortage in the community.

Will I need a work permit?
Yes.

How much do I get paid?
The pay will vary depending on the employer; however, the current minimum wage that can be earned is $15.50 per hour.

Where do I get a work permit?
At your high school.

What is the deadline to apply?
May 1, 2023.

When will I be notified if I have been accepted to the program?
Monday, May 15, 2023.

When will I find out where I have been assigned to work?
Friday, June 16, 2023.
