The Adult Education program offered on the Discovery High School campus is open both to current NUSD students as well as the larger community. Below are guidelines for entering and maintaining enrollments for the Adult Ed program.
Grade Levels
The grade level for an Adult Ed student is based on whether or not they are concurrently enrolled in NUSD–NOT on age or completion status of high school requirements.
A student who is concurrently enrolled in an NUSD school, say an 11th or 12th grader, will have that same grade level of 11 or 12 in Adult Ed.
A person who is enrolled in Adult Ed ONLY will have a grade level of AD, regardless of their age or whether or not they have a high school diploma.
To reiterate, the grade level of AD will only be used for people who are enrolled in Adult Ed ONLY.
Start Status
For all Adult Ed enrollments, please use start status “99: Other”.
Enrollment Service Type
Students who are concurrently enrolled in an NUSD school and Adult Ed will have a Primary (P) enrollment type on their NUSD enrollment and a Partial (S) enrollment type on their Adult Ed enrollment.
People enrolled in Adult Ed ONLY will have an enrollment type of Primary (P).
Attendance Funding Category
People enrolled in Adult Ed will fall into one of two categories for Attendance Funding:
- Students who are ONLY enrolled in Adult Ed need to be given an Attendance Funding Category of “26: Adult, not concurrently enrolled”.
- Students who are enrolled in Adult Ed while concurrently enrolled in an NUSD school will have an Attendance Funding Category on their Adult Ed enrollment of “42: Other concurrent”.
The “25: Adult, concurrently enrolled” Attendance Funding Category will not be used at this time.
For concurrently enrolled students, the Attendance Funding Category on their NUSD enrollment will still be “15: Continuation” for Discovery students and “10: Regular Day” for all other NUSD students.
Enrollment End Status (Exit Codes)
When any enrollment is ended, it is critical that an end date as well as an end status be entered. There should never be an end date without an end status or an end status without an end date.
Adult Ed enrollments should be ended with one of the end statuses below as appropriate for the situation:
- 250: Adult Ed High School Diploma
- 440: Enrollment End (not CALPADS reported)
For students concurrently enrolled in NUSD schools, their NUSD enrollments should only be ended when they leave NUSD, using the appropriate end status based on the reason for their exit. The codes above (250 and 440) will NOT be used on a concurrently enrolled student’s regular NUSD enrollment—ONLY on their Adult Ed enrollment.
