Now that we have made the transition to Google, we want to take the opportunity to improve communication district-wide. Each school calendar is an important and powerful tool to communicate up-to-date information to your students, staff, and community as well as other schools, district leaders, and Board Members. Below, we have outlined some expectations for how each site should use and maintain its school calendar:
Each school will have a school-wide Google Calendar to be used for the following purposes:
- Holidays and vacations
- Back to school nights
- Athletic games times and locations
- School ceremonies, open houses, graduations
- State and district testing dates
- Registration and enrollment events
- Staff meetings
- Early dismissal or minimum days
- Parent –Teacher Conference weeks
- In-service days
- And other important events affecting the entire school (Prom, Homecoming, etc.)
Each school’s Google Calendar will be linked to their home page and viewable by all members of the public. All NUSD staff will be able to link to each school calendar in their Gmail account to view these school events.
Site Leader Responsibilities:
- Each school will designate someone on staff to maintain events with accurate information
- Each school will ensure that the school calendar is up-to-date and that events are updated with any changes or cancellations
- Each school will review the School Calendar weekly with their admin team, looking one month out to ensure the information is complete and accurate
- Each school will ensure Calendar items are important on a school-wide basis; avoid the desire by some people at your school to add every event, meeting, activity happening at your school that may be important to a select group of people but not important to the entire school community
- Each school will implement a process by which the staff and students can submit items to be added to the Google Calendar
You may already have a process in place, but moving forward with Google, we have the opportunity to improve communication throughout Natomas Unified by using this common platform for sharing information with key stakeholders.
