About Us

Heredia-Arriaga opened its doors for the first time on August 10th, 2023 with 3 transitional kindergarten classes and 4 kindergarten classes.  The school was named after Sue Heredia, a Natomas Unified School District board member, and her husband Mr. Arriaga, who has been very actively involved in the Natomas community.  The two of them advocated to open a dual immersion program in Natomas Unified.  As a result, Heredia-Arriaga is a 90/10 Dual Immersion School in North Natomas.

In the 90/10 model, students in TK and Kindergarten spend 90% of their instructional time in Spanish.  The percentage of time spent in English increases by 10% in 1st grade and in each grade thereafter until half the content is in English and the other half in Spanish.  The goal of the program is to reach bilingualism and biliteracy by 5th grade.  Grades 1 through 5 will be added as the school’s first kindergarten class moves up. At Heredia-Arriaga, instruction is taught through integrated thematic units. Students are engaged and learn through hands-on experiences.

Our four school rules are:
  • Be Kind
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Safe
  • Make Good Decisions
