Two Rivers students were in for a real treat as they visited Sacramento State’s new planetarium and spoke with the college’s Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Josie Elpusan-Peavy’s 2nd graders also toured the science building and a laboratory. The budding scientists got to look inside tiny organisms through microscopes, thanks to Sac State students who shared what they were learning with the young learners.
The college visit is all a part of the school’s mission, as an AVID school, to get early learners college bound. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, and is an organization that partners with schools to provide professional development, resources, and support so that teachers can help students realize their potential.
