Donors give thousands to Natomas Unified as ‘part of our team’

They give for different reasons, but every dollar helps our students.

Independent Living Skills teacher Joel Schwieger of Natomas High School donated $525 for use in three classes that teach younger students with special needs.

Schwieger’s contribution is one of more than two dozen donations of cash or goods to the district,  cumulatively totaling nearly $50,000, since last summer. Natomas Unified strongly advocates educational partnerships and appreciates community assistance.

Integral Communities, owner of the Greenbriar Project, contributed $4,500 to the Music Program at Inderkum High School to assist low-income students attend a music competition and conference in Florida. The firm also donated $350 to music students at Natomas Middle School.

 Delta Stewardship Council contributed 30 used computers and monitors, valued at $21,836. Three $1,000 youth scholarships were donated by the Carpenters Local Union 46 and 1789.

Contributions to Natomas Unified range significantly in size and form, from cash donations of thousands of dollars to gifts of classroom supplies or technology. In calendar year 2013, NUSD received 51 cash donations totaling $30,970 and 15 non-cash gifts valued at $26,664.

Technology donations included $5,000 from the Thomas P. Winn Foundation for Chromebook computers and Internet access for low income, foster and homeless families. Intel Corp. contributed $2,500 to Natomas High School for computers and software. 

Some donations are designed to assist particular schools or programs – Adventure Christian Church of North Natomas, for example, has made numerous donations totaling $1,400 the past two years for homeless, foster youth or mental health programs. Two Rivers Elementary School received $750 from an anonymous source for Science Camp Scholarships and $495 in donated books, lunch boxes and craft supplies from Million Dollar Memory.

 Natomas Unified appreciates donors’ generosity and recognizes them as being “part of our team.”
