We visit the “Hawk Store” at Witter Ranch Elementary school in this video.

The “Hawk Store” is a place where students can redeem “Hawk Bills” for small toys or a recess pass. The store is one of the many examples our school district uses rewards to recognize students’ positive behavior and actions.

Each Friday, three students from each class, who received ‘Hawk Bills’ from throughout the week, pick a prize. The students who received the bills demonstrated positive acts. For example, a student helping a friend. “(My classmate) hurt his leg, I went to Miss Sara and asked for a wheelchair,” Ariyah, a student recalled.

The store is run by the school’s social worker, Stephanie Dillard. “For anything that’s positive, we want to reward them, we want to encourage them, so that school can be fun and so they can look forward to coming to the Hawk Store,” Dillard said.

Out of the squishy toys, slinkies, and lollipops, the most popular reward is the “Soar to Bonus Recess Pass” where students are allowed 15 extra minutes of recess with a friend.
