Suicide Prevention Week –NUSD Staff Provides Helpful Information to Save Lives

NUSD Podcast 23-24 suicide prevention month

Advisory: This podcast discusses suicide. Please take care when listening to this episode of Conversations with NUSD.

Natomas Unified recognizes September 10th – 16th as National Suicide Prevention Week. Our school district continually strives to connect families, students, and staff to resources that will help support them socially and emotionally. In this episode, host Kay Recede, with the Communications and Family Engagement Department (CAFE); sits down with Earl Pavao, Executive Director and Anthony Da Marto, Director; both work in NUSD’s Student Services and Support Department.

They talk about warning signs, separating fact from fiction about who is impacted and why, and resources the school district offers its families to support recovery.

NUSD’s mental health resources may be found here.

If you or someone you know may be feeling depressed or experiencing suicide ideation, please know there are people who care and want to help. Call 988 for the suicide and crisis line for both English and Spanish.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Food Distribution at Joey’s Food Locker

Joey’s Food Locker will distribute food on September 15th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or until we run out of food at Natomas High School, 3301 Fong Ranch Road (behind the school near the tennis courts). Families in need may receive produce, and food bags composed of canned goods. Items may be substituted or unavailable due to the number of distributions.

For Families or Individuals Coming for the First Time to Joey’s Food Locker

Please complete this form online once for your family so that we can enter this into our Oasis Insight Platform. It will save you time rather than completing the form in person during distribution and helps with traffic flow. Oasis Insight is an electronic information tool that allows staff to collect basic demographic data safely. Oasis will reduce wait times for return visits and help us determine how many families/individuals we serve. Please click on the link and complete the form.

All information in this system is secure and will not be shared outside our network. Information gathered will not impact your ability to receive services here or elsewhere.

The Food Distribution Route at Natomas High School

The food distribution drive-thru route will go through the Natomas High School north parking lot. Classes in Natomas High School will be in session until 3:29 p.m. We will open the gates on Fridays after 3:50 p.m. We ask that you do not line up before 3:30 p.m. to avoid blocking traffic on Fong Ranch Drive, especially when families pick up their students. We ask for your patience as we work hard to pass out the food quickly. Thank you! We also have options for families to walk up to pick up food near black gates next to B. Teri Burns Clinic.

If you have questions about Joey’s Food Locker, please contact Osvaldo Ortiz or call or text at 916-870-1659 or [email protected].
