As we start the final year of The Next 5 Strategic Plan (2017-2022) and prepare to develop and launch a new strategic plan starting in 2022-23, we look forward to your feedback and support.  This quick survey is to get your feedback/ideas about our District Vision.  Click here to access the survey.

Since June 2013, the current NUSD Vision has guided our work towards, “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.” Over the last 8 years our students, families, and staff have achieved much, including the following:

  • NUSD’s graduation rate is 96% compared to the state average of 84%
  • Hispanic/Latinx graduation rate is 96% compared to the state average of 82%
  • African American graduation rate is 93% compared to the state average of 77%
  • Students in the class of 2021 earned more college credits by junior year than previous graduating classes
  • NUSD has 9 Career Technical Pathways with 966 students enrolled in the 2020-2021 school year.  A tenth Pathway will launch next year.
  • 1 in 3 NUSD students are enrolled at International Baccalaureate (IB) schools
  • NUSD more than tripled the number of students taking Advanced Placement (AP) tests within the last 5 years.  Advanced Placement gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they are still in high school. And through taking AP Exams, students can earn college credit and placement, potentially reducing tuition costs.
  • 70% of our 2019-20 graduates met A-G requirements, courses required for CSU/UC admission
  • In 2020, 151 students earned the State Seal of Biliteracy.
  • NUSD outpaced the state in 11th grade ELA and Math growth over the last 5 years (2018-19 CAASPP Testing Results)
  • Every elementary school has added a specialized program such as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes. AVID and IB elementary schools develop the academic habits students will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college, in age-appropriate and challenging ways. Students learn about organization, study skills, writing skills, collaboration, communication, self-advocacy, self-confidence, and self-motivation.

While NUSD continues its focus on academics, our work to provide social-emotional learning supports and physical health supports has expanded beyond just our campuses.

In the last three years, we have been more intentional about having a broader influence on the health of our Natomas community by:

  • Supporting Joey’s Food Locker for local families in need
  • Partnering with the Health and Life Organization (HALO), Inc. to open, operate, and expand the B. Teri Burns Health Clinic to support families health needs
  • Addressing our homelessness in unique ways, such community donation campaigns and adopting a resolution with associated funding that supported housing and food assistance for our homeless families during the winter months
  • Hiring social workers for each school site, plus one that focuses on our Foster and Homeless Youth
  • Launching community COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics
  • Launching a community health clinic, including a mobile clinic, for uninsured and underinsured families in 2021-2022

With these broader social, emotional, and physical health actions, it’s time to adjust our Vision.  Please take a moment to provide your thoughts. As a reminder, our current Vision states, “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”
