Continuing a campus tradition, Natomas High School began its commencement ceremony for the Class of 2016 tonight by having 15 students say “welcome” in their native language: English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Tagalog, Hmong, Fijian, Italian, Russian, the list goes on and on.

The school is proud of its diversity — and its Nighthawk “family.” Senior Class President Ashley Amaro spoke of graduates not only loving their school but loving each other. “Family” pride and spirit were brought up again and again. “We started the year on fire — and we’re still burning,” Salutatorian Kanwalprit Singh Bagri said.

The Nighthawk Class of 2016 consisted of about 190 seniors. Their farewell ceremony was poignant, emotional and  inspirational, but mostly it was fun — at one point, for example, the class spontaneously sang “Happy Birthday” to Principal Yuri Penermon, who responded by quipping that he was suspending them all. A photo collage from today’s ceremony is posted below.
