Salvador Heredia-Arriaga Memorial Football Scholarship Awarded to Natomas High School Students

The Heredia-Arriaga family has once again honored their late son, Salvador, by awarding $1,000 scholarships to two Natomas High School students, Tony and Julian. Watch this video to hear from the students, as they share how honored they are and how the scholarship will help them further their academic careers.

Learning Recovery and Intervention Guide Now Available

The Learning Recovery and Intervention Spring Guide was recently mailed. Each family with students in the grades TK through 11th grade should have received a guide. As a reminder, this guide includes information specific to your student, a description of some of the supports available, and a spotlight on our district’s writing instruction.

For families with email addresses and text numbers on file, we have sent out an electronic version. These will come from a third party, [email protected]

School Spotlight

Promoting Access to Fresh Produce at Jefferson’s School Garden

From seeds to produce, Jefferson School students and teacher Cara Kruse, have been tending to their school’s garden. The students have planted squash, mint, and pollinator-friendly flowers. The students learn what goes into growing food and are given access to fresh produce. Watch this video as student volunteers share how gardening has helped them understand the importance of fresh produce.

CARE-ing Witter Ranch Students Treated to Special Luncheon

Witter Ranch students who exemplified Considerate, Achieving, Responsible, and Encouraging (CARE) acts have been treated to a special luncheon this week. Students caught practicing CARE-ing acts were given Hawk Bills by WRE staff and the students who earned at least 30 Hawk Bills were able to join the very special event.

Community Partnerships

New SacRT RydeFreeRT Program Cards Now Available

Our community partner, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) reminds Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade students that they can ride the entire SacRT transit network, including SacRT buses, light rail, and SmaRT Ride on-demand microtransit service for FREE! New RydeFreeRT cards will be available soon with a valid date of June 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024. The current RydeFreeRT card is still valid through June 30, 2023.

To ride free, students need to show a valid RydeFreeRT card. Youth who are experiencing homelessness or taking part in foster programs are also allowed to participate in the program, regardless of current residence or school address.

If a student doesn’t have a school ID, they can get a RydeFreeRT card, which is available at schools, libraries, and the SacRT Customer Service Center at 1225 R Street (adjacent to the 13th Street light rail station). Learn more about the program at rydefreert.com.

RydeFreeRT cards are being delivered to the Natomas Unified Education Center. For more information on when you can pick one up, please e-mail the Communications and Family Engagement Department at: [email protected].

NUSD Shows Appreciation to Staff Members with Farmers Market

Thanks to NUSD’s Nutrition Services and Human Resources departments, staff members at all sites were treated to an array of fruits and vegetables at our annual Farmers Market event. Employees helped themselves to fresh lemons, berries, asparagus, and other produce Tuesday. We appreciate our employees for all their hard work to ensure the academic success of students.
